Tragedy Scripted and Staged

Hamlet is a beloved play that was written by William Shakespeare. Analyzing this piece is a quite tricky task that leads to a deeper understanding of the art of theatre. It is a tragedy that was written in five acts. Shakespeare is telling a story about the Prince of Denmark, Prince Hamlet, who is mourning the death of his father. Not long after his father’s passing, his mother married his uncle Claudius. The ghost of Hamlet’s father comes to him and lets him know that he was killed by Claudius pouring poison in his ear as he slept. Hamlet then wants to take revenge for his father’s death.

The scene that I chose to analyze from this play is Act 1, scene 5. I decided to use this scene because this is, in my opinion, one of the essential scenes because it is a climax of the plot. After the ghost told Hamlet to take revenge for his father’s death, he asked Hamlet to leave his mother’s punishment to God. The video form of the scene I watched reveals the genuine emotion of the scene. It was what I imagined it is like. Hamlet was shocked at the information the ghost told him, he believed it and grew angry. The emotion of the characters is what really brought this scene to life. The demeanor of both the ghost and Hamlet went adequately with the dark environment of the stage. This scene was very intriguing, which helps to form the plot of the rest of the story.
